Last night I went out once again
To ply my ancient trade .
I've seldom heard a word of praise
For all the love I've made .
Sometimes I find it oh so hard
To do my joyful task .
I might explain it all quite well ,
If those who love would ask .
But few have ever dared to care
How love can go astray .
Most accept their lover's fate
When love just fades away .
So here it is for all to hear ,
How love has been till now .
Sometimes I just don't aim so well ,
I miss a heart somehow .
I have to hit two hearts at once .
It's timing , don't you see .
And sometimes lovers close their heart .
To all , especially me .
If someone ever gave you love ,
I hope you'll give just due ;
To me , the one who made it so ,
The joy that came to you .
Perhaps you closed your heart that time .
Perhaps I missed the mark .
Perhaps I timed it oh so bad
It only made a spark .
And if you came to love somehow ,
And theirs was not the same .
Or even if they turned from you ,
Then I'm the one to blame .
Yes , I'm to blame for all crossed love
That came to be so blue .
But please don't curse me oh so much ,
I have some feelings too .
I'm sorry for mistakes I've made .
I'd surely take them back .
If only I could give you all
The love in life you lack .
But if you'll give me one more chance .
I'll follow every lead .
And promise to keep at my work
To find the love you need .
And when I do , I'll string my bow ,
And line my arrow true .
And then the world will see once more
What Cupid still can do .

Love's Disguise
I saw it once again today ,
I laughed at it's disguise .
It always thinks to hide itself ,
As if I don't have eyes .
It came to me with joy and mirth ,
In hopes I'd laugh all day .
So when it came to be itself ,
I might not look its way .
But I was keen , as I have been
Lo all these many years .
To see it just for what it is ,
Whenever love appears .
And so I saw with my own eyes ,
The sign of love so true ;
The warmth and care between two souls ,
Made into one , brand new .
So , though it tries to hide itself ,
It now should be quite clear ;
I'll always see it as it is ,
Each time it may appear .
And to the couple , those whose love ,
I saw with my own eyes ;
I know they'll stay just as they are ,
Two souls in love's disguise .

My Ship Set Sail This Day
Alas, my love , what heart felt phrase
Could my sad verse express ;
That might well serve to satisfy
This pain I now possess ?
What parting song would set the mood ?
What poet's words ring true ?
What signal of a friendship death
Was missed by me , from you ?
Perhaps it was the spread of time ,
The spectrum strains of life .
It's not enough to charge it to
The duties of a wife .
Yes , friends will always make the time .
A minute , one or two .
To certify their just regard
And care , so it comes through .
The choices of the time we spend ,
Sometimes , a just mistake .
But darling , oh my darling dear ;
These ones for Heaven's sake .
Now let me see , it's laundry time .
My friend , of many years .
Now let me think , the ironing board .
My friend , consumed by fears .
The question that I have for you ,
Was did I cross your mind ?
And if I did , it's oh so sad .
And worse , it's so unkind .
That's why these fated words I write
To one I've loved so true ,
Have forced me to accept the fact
You don't feel as I do .
You may not understand at first
Why I must say good-bye .
It's not as though the love I've felt
Has turned into a lie .
It's just that for the love I give
Expressed by my concern ;
The consequence I do require ,
Is notice in return .
The fact you do not notice me ,
Or so it now appears ;
Means you're prepared to let my ship
Sail on this sea of tears .
I did not set to sail by choice
Upon this solemn sea .
Your note revealed these hidden words ,
'Please go away from me .'
I tried my best these many years ,
Though futile it now seems .
Perhaps , a friendship void of truth ,
Sealed up in phantom dreams .
With that , our friendship dies of age .
Adieu , my phantom friend .
Who knows when friendships go astray ,
Or why they reach their end ?
As it may take a little time
For me to drift away ;
I write this just so you will know ,
My Ship Set Sail This Day .
No tide of tears can bring it back
When such gale winds are blown .
It seeks love harbors yet unseen ,
And friendship lands unknown .

Spirit Love
Let's go down in the valley ,
The place we used to go .
To walk among the blades of grass
And tumble to and fro .
Let's go to our special place ,
You must remember still .
It's just beyond that old oak tree ,
A little down the hill .
Let's go down to sing our songs
And hold each other tight .
We'll bring our souls together there
With kisses through the night .
Let's go down to give again
Our love so wild and free .
Although we know it's different now
For souls like you and me .
We spirits live forever
And all our love does too .
So join me as we walk in love
The earth that we once knew .

When You Tell The Truth
I'm sorry if I doubt it,
Your plan to tell the truth.
I hear you might try charging.
Perhaps, set up a booth.
If you do I'll surely pay
To witness how it goes.
Truth, when coming from your mouth;
I wonder if it glows.
At that time, I'll surely see
The consequence it brings.
You with angels at your side
And other wondrous things.
Pigs in flight around the town.
Blue moons seen everywhere.
And unicorns and mermaids
Just lounging here and there.
A pot of gold and rainbows
Near Santa's magic sleigh.
Aliens from outer space
Would surely come that day.
I wouldn't miss the marriage
Of Hillary and Starr.
A Twiggy, Oprah Winfrey.
Bill Gates, a movie star.
Yes, I surely doubt it all
Could ever come to pass.
If it did, I'm sure the Gods
Would celebrate en masse.
And I would stand among them
In lipstick and a thong,
Prompting them to join me in
A hot tub sing-a-long.
Wonders would not cease, you see.
In fact, the truth would die.
For when it passes by your lips,
It then becomes a lie.

Sheltered Love
As my dreams are just reflections
Of the little love we knew ,
I shall always be contented
As I always dream of you .
Though your love you may have hidden
In the shadows of your mind .
My memory holds it closely
So it's not so hard to find .
I take my love out every day
Just as all true lovers do .
For still I cling to fading hope ,
That your love may still come through .
And if you find this oh so strange
Since you keep us far apart ;
Please know my love is sheltered still
In a castle called your heart .

The Time You Held Me Near
Last night it came in segments ,
A triplet wonder chain .
Three stories of our meeting
And talking once again .
The first , involved a lesson
That you might give to me .
On how to play it better ;
A tennis match , you see .
The second , was of pulling
A thorn out of your arm .
You didn't scream or holler ,
Consistent with your charm .
The third , more complicated .
A story of a loss .
You came to me for comfort ,
A tale I might emboss .
It seemed the home you cherished
Was all but falling down .
You said you had to leave it ,
And might move out of town .
I put my arm around you .
It seemed to be so real .
I know how losing something
Is hurt you can't conceal .
We walked together slowly ,
And closely hand in hand .
For holding you so gently ;
Is love , you understand .
We talked in gentle whispers
So close the words were clear .
I can't recall I ever
Had held you oh so near .
You seemed to want to be there .
You didn't pull away .
It struck me , you responding
And wanting me this way .
Twas then I knew the answer ,
The source of every tear .
The pain that comes from knowing
You never held me near .
But this was what I live for ,
A pleasant dream of you .
It doesn't happen often ,
So this is what I'll do .
I'll take my pen and write it ,
So it won't disappear .
This dream I dearly cherish ,
The Time You Held Me Near .

The Sweetest Candy
Here's to all young fellows
Who'd wish to court someday .
Be sure to take some candy
As you go on your way .
And don't forget a flower ,
The key to every door .
It flatters every yearning ,
Of each girl , rich or poor .
But if you don't have either ,
And most guys never do ;
Remember , just be gentle ,
That counts for something too .
For though most girls can't tell you ,
As they don't know in youth ;
True love is found in friendship ,
Made wholesome by the truth .
So don't forget your candy ,
And take your flowers too ;
For jerks will carry plenty ,
They know just what to do .
And all jerks ply them gently ,
So don't be quite so quick
Top bluntly tell them truly
Their heads are just too thick .
Just give them time to notice
How much you really care .
As jerks will always leave them
In misery and despair .
In time , when she gets older
And wiser in love's ways ;
She may just see that friendship ,
Adds joy to all her days .
And with her scars of living
Still fresh within her mind ;
This time , when you bring flowers ,
She won't be quite as blind .
And then , if you take candy
And gently hold her too ;
She'll find the sweetest moments
Are those she spends with you .
Yes , then , though it's belated ;
True love will come your way .
And you'll not have to worry
When jerks come out to play .
For though they might bring flowers ,
Seem kind and gentle too ;
She'll know the sweetest candy
Still comes from loving you .

The Rough Hewn Face Of God
There's nothing like a camping fire
To warm your heart each day .
And make a man feel right at home ,
Though it's so far away .
There's nothing like a forest glen
Just at the break of dawn .
To give a man a little hope
Whenever it seems gone .
There's nothing like a mountain stream
As glistening waters flow .
To help a man remember things
Forgotten , long ago .
There's nothing like a quiet lake
To help you find relief ;
When having lost a special friend ,
You're overcome with grief .
There's one more thing that's on my list
Of things men can misplace ,
And often find out in the woods
Placed there by Heaven's grace .
It's what men might see anywhere ,
And that's what's oh so odd .
They seem to see it only there ,
The Rough Hewn Face Of God .

The Core Of Love
Well guys , I guess it never ends .
She says she wants to be just friends .
Just why do they like torture so ?
It might just be , they do not know .
For if they knew , they'd never say
The words I heard from her this day .
I'm sure you've heard these same words too .
The ones they hope won't make us blue .
The alternate , I must confess .
Sure chills me more , and hurts no less .
That girls still look to stars above .
Though it's not there , the core of love .
I'm sure you guys will all agree .
The time has come for girls to see ;
What they might know, but can't recall .
That love is friendship after all .
Whatever else I say or do ,
This message must somehow get through .
We'd much prefer a painful end ,
To endless torture by a friend .
When damsels ask to be our friend ,
In hopes our yearning love might end .
It just can't be , as we're so sure
It's friendship that makes love so pure .
To ladies , now I've let you know .
Just one more thing before I go .
Withold these words , and if you care ;
Please tell the truth , it's just and fair .
And tell us what you know is true .
There is no hope in loving you .
Accept , with love , you'll lose a friend .
The core of love's essential blend .
Now that's the way , it seems to me ,
To do this thing more easily .
For love's not such a fleeting thing ,
As friendship binds and makes it cling .
So that is why , you must now know .
We fellows yearn to love you so .
We've found in you a cherished friend .

Romance
They say I'm too romantic .
Oh what a cross to bear !
Wait while I just lift it up
And take it here and there .
It's never been too heavy
As other things weigh more .
Surely it's a destiny
I'm bound to just adore .
So laugh , you sorry creatures .
Enjoy yourselves at large .
I'll just lay in wait for you
Till pain and love take charge .
Then , you'll turn to me at last
As solace for your soul .
That's the way it always is .
Life charges quite a toll .
And when you do , remember .
The cross you'll have to bear .
Is not the one of romance
I carry here and there .
The cross you'll have to carry,
Long nights with tears like rain .
Will only be abated
When romance comes again .
Then you'll search hard for romance
In every written line .
Don't look in other places ,
You'll find it here, in mine .

Forever And All Time
I had a dream the other day
That I walked along a road ,
And came upon a man who worked
At a place where water flowed .
He smiled and spoke in gentle words ,
'Come now stranger , tell me true .
Are you the one to take my place
And is my work now through ? '
I said , 'I really could not say , '
As I knew not where I go .
Or even where I journeyed from ,
This place , I did not know .
'Oh well , ' he said , 'It won't be long
Till my work is done , someday .
I've waited here two thousand years ,
So what's another day ? '
'You see the planks I laid ? ' He said .
And I said , 'I really do.'
' I lay them for my friends to cross
So they might start anew .'
'For on the other side you see ,
Is the place where I shall go .
I even cut my own good plank
But I can't lay it though .'
I said , 'I just don't understand.'
And he tried then to explain .
'I'm waiting for someone to come,
The last one down the lane .'
'For he alone will lay my plank
As I cannot lay for him .
I must complete my father's work
As I wait just for them .'
'And when he comes , I then will go
Into my father's land .
And then the souls of all good men
Who crossed will take my hand .'
I said , 'What then , will come of him
Who labored and did for Thee ? '
He said, ' That of the souls of men ,
He's special , don't you see ? '
'He's the one who shall remain ,
Forever and all time .
For he's the one my father chose
To rest here so sublime .'
'To not return from dreamer's land
As others always do .
But to remain forever here
As all his dreams come true .'
I asked if I might lay His plank
And he smiled and said , 'You may.'
And so I took His plank in hand
And tried so hard to lay .
Alas! I could not lay His plank .
And He said, ' It might be you .
You're not the first in dreams to try
To have your dreams come true .'
'It's only when your soul returns ,
When your body dies one day .
That you will know your fate for sure
If you should come this way .'
I said I really did not know
Of the fates , which I desired .
He said , ' The only fate to dread
Is the one that Satan fired .'
'But I will tell you true my friend .
Whichever way you may go ;
You can't get there by dreams alone -
It's living life , you know.'
I asked if He'd prepared for me,
'A new sturdy plank today .'
And He just smiled and turned and said ,
'You best be on your way .'
I then awoke from this fine dream
To a better life for me .
And now I know what to expect
The afterlife to be .
I've wondered if He made my plank,
Or will I rest so sublime .
And always see my dreams come true ,
Forever And All Time .

Whichever way you may go ;
You can't get there by dreams alone -
It's living life , you know.'
I asked if He'd prepared for me,
'A new sturdy plank today .'
And He just smiled and turned and said ,
'You best be on your way .'
I then awoke from this fine dream
To a better life for me .
And now I know what to expect
The afterlife to be .
I've wondered if He made my plank,
Or will I rest so sublime .
And always see my dreams come true ,
Forever And All Time .

A Wonder Such As Thee
Sometimes I sit and wonder ,
How would it really be ?
A life of never loving
A wonder such as thee .
Would life be any shorter ,
A kiss taste just as sweet ,
The summer any colder ,
The winter winds replete ?
Would music be less joyful ,
The springtime less adorned ?
Would colors fade in autumn ,
And roses be more thorned ?
Would words be less enchanting ,
From warm and gentle friends ?
And would life be less cherished
Until life's journey ends ?
All lovers grant life's pleasures ,
No matter how displayed ;
Or found to be worth knowing ,
Decline , when their loves fade .
It's well that I just wonder
And dream of what won't be .
A life of never loving
A wonder such as thee .

Lover's Lane
Here I am just all alone without your love dear .
Will I ever know a love that can remain ?
As I struggle through my life without contentment ,
Can I ever find it here on Lover's Lane ?
I can't sing a loving song with cheerful feeling .
I've not broken any link of our love chain .
I'll forever be required to keep the memory
Of the times we spent right here on Lover's Lane .
Though I know that you're still near , it's not forever .
And this place so seldom sees love's bitter pain .
I still cling to fading hope that you'll remember ,
How you felt when we once loved on Lover's Lane .
I can't see , for I'm still blind in love with you dear ,
How I'll manage if your love I can't regain .
I shall take whatever comes as I'm not sorry
For the moments we spent here on Lover's Lane .
I just hope you take the time you need my darling .
And I hope that you don't dwell on sad refrain .
Just remember all the joy we had together ,
When we held each other close on Lover's Lane .
If it is the last good-bye for our love darling .
And the words you try to use don't make it plain .
Please remember these three words , 'It's lost forever.'
Like the loves so often found on Lover's Lane .

Poem Of A Lifetime
I hope it's spring that I'll first see
The naked light of day ,
When God may grant me one more life
To wash my sins away .
And pray , I do , my first few years
Are filled with love and care .
And hope , I do , my mom and dad
Will always be right there .
I wish that when I come to be
A teenage soul again ,
I hope that I may find someone
To someday be my friend .
And when I get to be grown up ,
A woman , or a man ;
I hope to love each one as much
As any other can .
And then if I , when older still ,
Find fortune and/or fame ;
I pray that I shall not forget
When friends might call my name .
And if , by chance , the winds of life
Bring sorrows to my door ;
I hope that I'll not turn from Him
As I have done before .
It's then , when I have lived enough
To know His name to call ;
I may just come to see my life
As worthwhile after all .
And just before I make my way
To that celestial shore ;
I hope that God will say , 'Enough ,
You shall return no more .'

The Core Of Sin
When I asked you for the dance ,
You know I took a monster chance .
Then you said you surely would ,
And I was pleased you understood .
Then we slowly , took the floor .
And all I thought was , just one more .
As I held you in my arms ,
I closed my eyes and saw your charms .
All I heard was music play .
And as I felt your body sway ,
Dreamed the dreams of all young boys .
Of such fine things are livings joys .
As the music ceased to play ,
I stopped our dance and stepped away .
As I did , I felt his hand .
Then all dreamed castles turned to sand .
There they were , your hands for fun .
A strange, sad dance, is two plus one .
Then I looked in your bright eyes ,
To wonder at your warm disguise .
As you smiled your mask away ,
And kept your silence of such play ;
I resigned to be a sport ,
And only gave a plain retort .
Smiling , I just walked away .
For there was not much else to say .
Until now I've held my peace ,
But now I write this sad release .
What you did in wretchedness ;
Hurt oh so much , and shamed no less .
Now I've got to say this prayer .
'May God forgive , what happened there !
May you come to Him and ask
That He forgive your shameful mask .'
Such disguise can do no more
Than lead a soul to Hell's front door .
And I'll say just one more word .
The one I hope to God , He heard .
'Love' , is all I ask He do .
No torture then , for such as you .
Just reminders at each turn .
The spread of pain is His concern .
Suffering is always felt
Deep in the soul , where love has dwelt .
Just because they never fell ;
It doesn't mean , they never well .
All welled tears portray such pain .
And damns the souls who made them rain .
So I write , out of such blue ;
To let you know , I spoke for you .
Your redemption , now awaits .
May you avoid , the other fates !
If you don't ; then as you may
In Hell , remember it , this way .
You did Satan's work back then .
You tortured love , the core of sin .

Tortured Love
I saw her this evening .
The one I endeavor to see .
She laughed at the picture ,
That showed her as she used to be .
I try to ignore it ,
Each time when I see her this way .
But as I still love her ,
She crosses my mind every day .
My heart becomes joyful
When she stands as close as can be .
And I am just grateful
To know once again she's with me .
I guess time has muted
The words and the anger she felt ;
When I told her truly ,
Her beauty had made my heart melt .
So what can I do now ?
I can't go to sleep in such pain .
I feel it just knowing
She's gone from my life once again .
But whatever happens ,
I'll always hope she'll be my friend .
And pray I'll endure this ,
My long tortured love without end .

When Crystal Hearts Are Broken
When crystal hearts are broken
You cannot make repair .
The warmth and love you cherished
Turns then , to cold despair .
Its pieces of love shattered ;
Though small , shall sparkle still .
So gather them as treasures
And keep them , if you will .
For crystal hearts when broken ;
Though shattered and no more ,
Are treasured for their beauty
Displayed to you before .
The pieces , just remember ,
Though sometimes hid away ;
Still sparkle like a treasure
When they're put on display .
The world should see such treasures
Because they're oh so rare .
Crystal hearts add value
To lives of cold despair .
And crystal , when it sparkles
In whole , or just in part ;
Still is , of all its vessels ,
True love's most favored heart .

Young William And Young April
Young William and young April
Met in the park one day .
Young William said to April ,
'Why did you come this way ? '
Young April said to William ,
'I thought I might see you .'
Young William , then to April ,
'It's funny , what you do .'
Young April gave to William
A sweet , young childhood kiss .
Young William said to April ,
'Don't bother me like this .'
Young April stood in silence ,
Not knowing what to do .
Then young William turned away .
Young April , torn in two .
Young William said , 'Don't follow me .'
Away from her he fled .
April then , sat down and cried ,
And wished that she was dead .
William never came again .
At least , for many years .
Fearful that young April still ,
Might be there shedding tears .
William walked the park again .
It seemed just like before .
Wondering if he might see her .
Young April , there once more .
Young William never noticed .
The roses hid it well .
The place they found Young April .
The place she used to dwell .

Wondrous Love
The day was just like any day ,
Though it was so long ago .
I can't recall just how it was
Before I loved her so .
I guess my life was happy then ,
Before it came to me .
I just don't know , I'm not that sure .
I was a child , you see .
But it's this I know for certain .
It happened at midday .
An arrow shot from Cupid's bow
Brought Wondrous Love my way .
Twas then that I first noticed her ,
A girl I always knew .
Though she , nor I , had dreamed of love ;
So lasting and so true .
I barely could contain myself .
My face all flush with glow .
How was I to hide it now ?
They all were bound to know .
We'd just come in from having played .
All quiet , now at rest .
Although I'm sure they all could hear
My heartbeat through my chest .
My Wondrous Love had come to me
As no feeling known before .
I tried so hard to catch my breath .
I looked at her once more .
Only when I stared at her
As I can now recall ,
Could I be satisfied enough
To calm myself at all .
How great it was to be near her
And in such love to bask !
I yearned to be much closer still ,
And almost deigned to ask .
Yes , all I did at school was dream ,
And thank dear God above ;
For giving me a chance to feel
Such overpowering love .
I loved her always from that time ,
And asked of God no more .
She seemed to have them all in her ,
The charms that I adore .
The joy I felt each time she neared
Gave warmth and made me smile .
I always yearned to make it last ,
If only for awhile .
Then one dark day , she went away ;
My Wondrous Love and friend .
Twas then , that others might believe
My love had reached its end .
But though it might have come and gone ,
It was not so with me .
For she became my one great love ,
I think you'll now agree .
The moments of my life since then ,
Became these lonely years .
As sadness seized my loving heart
And soaked it with my tears .
So looking back , you know it's true ,
As I knew even then ;
I'd never know throughout my life ,
Such Wondrous Love again .

The Wondrous Joy Of Love
The only things of value
Contained in God's array,
Are found in those few moments
When love is on display.
The precious little seconds
When lovers realize
The joy and satisfaction
They see in each ones eyes.
The words that pass in whispers,
That shiver down the spine,
The yearning for each other
That seems almost divine.
It's when such moments linger,
Those moments of romance;
That all life finds its value
In just one loving glance.
We all dream of such moments.
Why then, are they so rare?
It seems we'd rather harbor love,
Than spread it here and there.
We've shed our tears of sorrow.
What's left are those of joy.
A strategy of loving
Is what we should employ.
Hug the ones you cherish,
Just kiss and hold them tight.
Do what you have yet to do,
But always thought you might.
Remember, lifetimes numbers
Are found on every crown .
I wonder why you're waiting,
The rain is pouring down.
And if you have nobody,
Don't make this poor excuse.
Just ask, and you'll find someone
Prepared to set love loose.
All souls should be companioned.
Two hearts should beat as one.
Two lips should feel the passion
Of kisses, every one.
Four eyes should see the beauty.
Four hands should gently feel.
And tears of joy, when falling;
Is love, both true and real.
For each of us, though strangers,
Still seek love as our goal.
As God wished His creations
To join as just one soul.
However you may find it,
No matter for how long,
There is no love created
By two that can be wrong.
So have as your endeavor,
His calling from above.
The spread of God's creation.
The Wondrous Joy Of Love.

The Star
The city lights are shining .
And though I'm far away ,
It won't be too much longer
Till I'm in their array .
I've paid my dues to join them .
And now I have a place
Reserved among the starlets
Who yearn to see my face .
I've dreamed of this forever,
Enduring sleepless nights .
And wished the stars of Heaven ,
Would all be guiding lights .
If I had come in daytime ,
The sun might block their view .
That's why I come in nighttime ,
So they might see me too .
I surely love the nighttime .
The dark I've never feared .
You should have heard the shouting
The night I first appeared .
Yes , I see them clearly now ,
They're looking out to see .
I'm the one they're waiting for .
I guess they've heard of me .
Well , now I'm here before them .
They kneel before my face .
The time has come to judge them ,
This sinful human race .

The Dreaded Words
The hated phrase , the one to dread .
The one you all one time have said .
The hardest words to say when true .
The most feared words , yes , I love you .
Though it may come to cross your lips ,
No one has cared to give you tips
On how to say it to a friend
So your relationship won't end .
And that is why we hate it so .
It terrifies the friends we know .
But though it's very hard to say ,
True love demands it be this way .
So speak obscurely , and with rhyme .
And add some charm when it comes time .
But never say , however true ;
The dreaded words , yes , I love you .

The captain of the team .
Her mother said she didn't like
The boy she thought a dream .
Sandy found a dress to wear
To her Junior-Senior Prom .
Her mother said she hated it .
Yes , that was Sandy's mom .
Sandy wore it anyway .
The boys thought she was cool .
Her mother said how she behaved
Made any girl a fool .
Sandy stayed out all night long .
Her mom paced to and fro .
Where her daughter was that night
No one would ever know .
Sandy saw the light of day .
How did the party end ?
And where was he , the boy she loved
And took for her best friend ?
Sandy found she was alone .
Her love had gone away .
Now she knew it mattered ,
What her mom had to say .
Sandy had a daughter and
She loved her oh so true !
Then her daughter fell in love .
Was nothing really new ?
Sandy waited half the night .
She cried , as you may know .
Then her daughter came back home
And giggled at her flow .
Sandy wiped her tears away ,
And smiled a little too ;
Thankful for her daughter's fate
At finding love so true .
Yes , Sandy found a boy to love .
The captain of the team .
The one that brought her daughter home .
The one , she thought a dream .

Jake , The Rounder
They called him Jake , The Rounder ,
He did just as he pleased .
He always made a legend of
The life through which he breezed .
He played each game a plenty
And always won his share .
But it was at a hustler's game
His legend came to bear .
He took ole Stanley Moses
For quite a wad one night .
As Moses thought he had him beat ,
But it was Rounds all right .
Jacob Brooks had met a girl
And tried to make a play .
Then Rounder found them both alone
Just at the break of day .
Rounder's girl , or so he claimed ,
Would never stray again .
And Jacob Brooks was never seen .
Where did he go back then ?
Janie Clark was next to run
Afoul of Rounder's games .
They found her in an ole creek bed ,
Said killed by Corey James .
Rounder took ole Perry Smith
For one and forty two .
All that good ole Perry had .
He died , that's all we knew .
Rounder next met Mickey Starr
At Simpson's Bar and Grill .
And rounder might have lost that night ,
But he gave Starr a pill .
I don't think he ever knew ,
And no one dared to say .
And who would be the first to get
In Jake The Rounder's way ?
Rounder ruled the bars back then .
Most closed now , as you know .
But Jake sure left the only way
A man like him should go .
There he was , next to a tree
One cold December day .
His body blistered by the heat
Of branding irons , they say .
You may wonder who it was
That left him as he be .
I guess it's time I tell the truth .
His girlfriend , Jane , and me .
